The 3D Printer Experience in Chicago, IL. has announced that its doors will be open on April 22nd, 2013.  The store is designed to introduce people to the world of 3D printing.  It offers access to over twenty 3D printers, a 3D scanning system and a custom app for designing pendants.  Visitors can register for educational workshops on subjects ranging from freely available 3D scanning and modeling software to 3D printer basics.

3D portraits can be made on site using the scanner and printers, and live streaming will take place while customers wait for prints in the Inspiration Lounge.  “We want people’s imaginations to explode with possibility,” says co-founder Julie Friedman.  “The 3D Printer Experience,” co-founder Mike Moceri adds, “is part of the third industrial revolution, turning passive consumers into active producers.”

Initially, four different types of 3D printers will be on site, three from the personal class and one from the professional class.  The UP! Mini, MakerBot's Replicator 1 and Replicator 2 will provide Fused Filament Fabrication options.  The EOS Formiga P 110, a laser sintering system, will be available for professional class output.  A Formlabs Form 1 stereolithography printer will be added to the mix as soon as it arrives.  They will also be selling the UP! Mini for $999 and will represent EOS on the industrial side.
