Go!SCAN 3D scanner in action

Portable 3D scanner manufacturer Creaform was acquired by electronics giant Ametek in a $120 million-deal.

Headquartered in Levis, Quebec, Creaform makes scanners for the automotive, aerospace, consumer products, heavy industries, manufacturing, oil and gas, and power generation industries.

The Berwyin, Pa.-based Ametek boasts sales of over $3.6 billion by making everything from vacuum motors to thermal management systems.

The 10-year-old Creaform has over 300 employees with manufacturing operations in Quebec and Grenoble, France. It also has sales operations in the United States, France, Germany, China, Japan and India.

Its products include the Handyscan 3D portable self-positioning 3D scanners, the HandyPROBE optical portable CMM, the MetraSCAN 3D optical CMM scanners, MetraSCAN-R robot-mounted version and the Go!SCAN 3D white light scanner. 

The scanners are used for reverse engineering, quality control, non-destructive testing, product development and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
