is a platform which aggregates free, 3D printable objects, and it first opened during June of this year.

If all goes as planned, the team at MMF say designers who upload their creations will be earning cash based on the number of downloads of their objects.

In the meantime, MyMiniFactory is feeling the holiday spirit a tad early and they've decided to play Santa Claus if you're willing to serve as a 3D Printing Elf.

To that end, they've offered a grand prize for their Christmas design contest, and it's a mighty nice stocking stuffer: an Ultimaker 1 3D Printer.

Valued at $2,700, the grand prize puts a hefty beatdown on standard Christmas gifts like a couple of rep ties and a package full of socks.

It's a pretty simple proposition. To enter, just create a printable 3D model and upload the design to one of two categories, either a 3D printable decorative object with an 'endangered species' theme, or a 3D printable object with a seasonal theme. Heck, according to the rules, you can enter files in both categories.

Entries will be accepted from the 4th of November through the 20th of November, 2013, so the deadline looms. Once all the entries are submitted, they'll be posted on the website and will be available during a 3-week voting period.

The design with the most downloads takes the grand prize.

Entries from anywhere in the world are eligible, and to make it happen, simply register with My Mini Factory and submit your entry through the upload system. Entries should be uploaded packed in a ZIP file which must include:

  • Your object in STL format*
  • A rendering measuring 378 pixels X 378 pixels in jpeg format
  • A text or .doc format file containing a short description of your object

They ask that you submit your design scaled to fit within a 120mm X 120mm X 120mm print space, and if your object is larger than that construction window, that you break down into parts or sections which can be printed within the 120mm X 120mm X 120mm build area.

Once your design has been received, the gurus at MyMiniFactory will test print it on one of their 3D printers. If your design successfully passes muster and prints correctly, it will be entered into the contest and you're on your way.

During the voting period, each upload will be placed on its own page for display.
