Mold3D is offering a two day 3D printing workshop for character artists at Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, Calif., April 25-26, 2015. The instruction material is intended for artists in the entertainment industry who have yet to adopt 3D printing as an artistic medium and would like to start now. Subjects will include ZBrush Creature Sculpting, 3D Printing Pipeline training and Maquette Finishing Techniques.
The course instructors will be Ian Joyner and Robert Vignone.
Joyner is a concept designer, illustrator and art director who has worked in the entertainment industry for over 10 years and is currently the lead character designer at Legacy Effects. Recent film credits include Godzilla, Robocop, Snow White and the Huntsman, Amazing Spiderman and Avengers.
Vignone has worked in the visual effects and game industries since 2004. A former modeler at DreamWorks Animation, he is a co-founder of Mold3D and a 3D Printer World seminar lecturer. His film credits include How To Train Your Dragon 2, Avatar, Battle: Los Angeles, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Hellboy, among others.
On day one, students will be sculpting a 3D model of their own design using traditional sculpting concepts and techniques. Day two will see the class finishing and preparing their models for 3D printing plus an interactive session on post-processing the printed object.
