In August, Office Depot announced they would be selling 3D Systems' Cube and CubeX 3D printers online. Now they have announced the first plans to sell the 3D printers in-store, beginning with a location in Denver. When asked why Office Depot chose Denver, George Hill, Office Depot's Senior Vice President of Copy and Print Depot said, "Denver is rich with small businesses, product designers and students interested in designing, printing and manufacturing three-dimensional objects. At Office Depot, we know seeing is believing and we're excited to bring the 3D printing experience to Denver."
Office Depot plans to sell 3D Systems Cube and CubeX 3D printers at the Denver location until early November. They are also planning to host something they call "The Cube Experience" within the store. During the Cube Experience customers can watch the printers in action and even go hands-on with them as they print out samples. This downtown location is the first of Office Depot's new format stores where consumers are invited to have a hands-on experience with the technology before making a purchase. In this scenario, customers can select and walk away with one of the 25 sample objects designed by professional artists.
Office Depot is also running a contest in conjunction with the announcement, but it's only for Denver residents. If you're in the area you can register to win your own Cube 3D printer. Enter the drawing in the Office Depot Wynkoop location between now and November 10. The winner will be selected on November 10, 2013.
