Print The LegendWhen a film hits Netflix, it's time to sit up and take notice.

With more and more people cutting the cord to cable, the real measure of a documentary is the moment you can use your phone to watch it streaming at your leisure, and now Netflix has set a debut date for the 3D printing documentary Print the Legend.

Starting on Friday, Sept. 26, you can watch it for yourself from the comfort of your couch.

The documentary feature-winning entry at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival for the Special Jury Recognition award for editing and storytelling category went to Print the Legend.The film focuses on the race between 3D printer manufacturers MakerBot and Formlabs to take over the leading role in bringing manufacturing to the consumer. The plot follows the principals of the companies as they take on established players like Stratasys and 3D Systems for a share of the booming 3D printing market.

From printing guns and human organs, to "dismantling the world's industrial infrastructure, the next Industrial Revolution," Print the Legend follows the stories of the human beings building an industry from the ground up.

Calling their film "the definitive 3D Printing Documentary capturing a tech in the midst of its 'Macintosh Moment'", the filmmakers say Print the Legend is a "compelling tale about what it takes to live the American Dream in any field."

The emerging market for consumer-focused 3D printers, was built on the work of entrepreneurs determined to bring the design of products to the home front, and Print the Legend tells their fast-paced story.

The documentary, developed, produced, and financed by Chad Troutwine (Freakonomics) and Audax Films, was led by Co-Producer Andrew Kortschak (Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia) and Executive Producer Walter Kortschak.

In association with Exhibit A Films, producer Seth Gordon (Undefeated, Mitt, The King of Kong) and Executive Producer Mary Rohlich (Make Believe), handled the filmmaking chores with longtime collaborators Luis Lopez and Clay Tweel who directed, shot and edited the film with the help of producer Steven Klein.
