The medical and dental markets for 3D printing and additive manufacturing are on the forefront of the technology, and now Stratasys is introducing the highest precision wax 3D printers available to the dental industry.

Planned to be unveiled on May 17th at the LMT Lab Day West Show, the Stratasys CrownWorx and FrameWorx 3D Printers are aimed at allowing dental laboratories to produce wax-ups for crowns, bridges and denture frameworks.

Using wax deposition modeling technology, a jetting technology that is designed to enable consistent quality and a reliable process, these new devices produce wax-ups via an automated method made to fit into a dental lab's established workflow.

Stratasys says the pair of new machines produce smooth surface finishes and minimize post-processing. The materials burn-out with no residue, material shrinkage, cracking or expansion to allow precision casting and reduce costs previously incurred when finishing gold and other precious metals.

"These wax 3D printers and new materials are an ideal fit for small labs interested in upgrading dental casting technology," said Avi Cohen, Stratasys Director of Global Dental. Boasting the highest resolution in the industry at 5,000 x 5,000 x 8,000 dpi, the FrameWorx wax-ups can be directly investment cast with minimal post-processing, and the materials used pose no biohazard or disposal concerns.
