SMARTTECH plans to unveil the device at the 3D Show – Printers and Scanners Fair event on November 21-22, 2014 in Warsaw. The result of more than two years of work, the micron3D allows users to capture the smallest of details.
A team of engineers working from input received via a questionnaire distributed to more than 200 previous SMARTTECH customers took the data as the basis for their assumptions on what should go into the making of the new unit.
Invented by Darek Jasiński, it's an optical scanner employing narrow-band, green structural light which minimizes the influence temperature has on accuracy by using carbon fiber production material.
This latest offering is capable of scanning down to 10 micron accuracy and the carbon fiber material construction takes care of even the largest changes in ambient temperature. SMARTTECH says the micron3D is, as a result, much lighter than previous versions which featured steel construction.
SMARTTECH also included an internal shock absorbing system which uses small plates to absorb micro vibrations, a critical feature when scanners are used in industrial applications.
The micron3D's LED light projector, which boasts more than 2500 lumens of output, will let users scan even in relatively bright industrial settings. White structural light allows end users collect a result which offers high fidelity and true color of those scanned objects, but it may require slightly dimmed room lighting conditions for best results.
The green lighting option, said to be different than anything which has come before it, is 30 percent more accurate than the traditional blue wavelength lights used in other devices, and SMARTTECH says that's a critical improvement for industrial customers. The use of green wavelengths of approximately 550 nm makes it possible to reduce chromatic aberration and a spectral filter cutting off all wavelengths except the green light beam is the key.
