Sketchfab

The largest free catalog here, and the only one where every download states a Creative Commons license on the model page. Owned by Epic. The models are built to be looked at, which is why so few of them slice without repair first.

Poly Haven

Everything is CC0: no account, no attribution, no commercial restriction of any kind, which makes it the only site on this list with nothing to read before you use a file. It holds roughly 2,300 assets and only about 520 of them are models.

CGTrader

150,058 free models, and a royalty-free license that permits commercial use of the render. It forbids reselling the model itself, in digital form or as a single printed item, so it does not solve the problem people come to it with.

TurboSquid

Shutterstock owned, and the strictest license here for anyone printing. Physical copies that are untransformed or substantially similar to the model are limited to “personal use, gifts, or charitable donations, with a maximum of 5 instances of such Creation per Purchase”.

Free3D

Paid files carry the TurboSquid license and its five-copy cap. Free files carry whatever the uploader chose, which has to be read one model at a time.

Printables

The exception on this list: a printing catalog rather than a rendering one. Go here first if the model is meant to end up as an object.
