Upper mid-range as a kit; more assembled
The open-frame machine you buy once. Fully open source, every part sold individually, and owner reports run to months of uptime without a failed print. The loadcell first-layer calibration means the famous Prusa reliability no longer costs an evening of setup.
The open frame limits it to PLA, PETG and TPU in practice, and the kit price buys a slower machine than a mid-range enclosed Bambu. The price is for the next five years, not the first one.
Best at: Longevity. The printer you can still fix in 2031.
Worst at: Price per specification, and materials without an added enclosure.
